Sotheby's x LITO | Exclusive Editions, Kehinde Wiley

Launching April 2026, Sotheby’s will partner with pioneering editions publisher LITO for a newly conceived Exclusive Editions series; presenting commissioned limited edition artworks from leading contemporary artists, all works will be available exclusively through Sotheby’s online marketplace. Created in close collaboration with each artist, all editions are hand-signed and numbered by the artist and reflects their vision through LITO’s revolutionary high-rendering technology to create a new generation of limited editions.

For the inaugural release, American artist Kehinde Wiley has created six unique editions based upon his iconic 2008 painting Triple Portrait of Charles II. Wiley is highly regarded for his portraits that render people of colour in the traditional settings of Old Master paintings, challenging a history of Western European oil painting to celebrate Black and brown people the artist has met throughout the world.

Taking basis in Anthony van Dyck’s Triple Portrait of Charles I (1635–1636), Wiley’s edition explores the nature of portraiture and questions the extent to which a portrait can ever truly capture an individual; in this work, the repetition of the sitter presents them from three angles and pushes against a flattening or simplifying of the body in space. The use of florals and filigree within the world of Wiley’s work similarly speak to this historical reference, and strike a balance between historicity and authority in the work, paired also with a sense of lightness and play. Through LITO’s state-of-the-art and patented technology, each limited edition artwork retains the depth, texture and vibrancy as intended by the artist.

Using their Hi-Rnd© proprietary technology, LITO is able to capture and replicate texture, colour, relief and brushstrokes at multiple scales, to create and recreate original artworks. For this collaboration, Wiley’s original painting is reimagined onto mirror and these limited edition works capture the artist’s expertise in blending art historical references with a uniquely modern flair. Each larger format work an edition of just 10 and smaller scale works of 20, these exclusive editions offer the chance to own a piece from one of the most pertinent living artists today.
